THE SKINNER HOUSE

The Skinner House is an superb example of the Craftsman Bungalow architectural style. It has the Bungalow's large and inviting front porch, the strong horizontal orientation, the usual one and one-half stories, the broad, low-pitched roofs and deep overhangs, and the prominent dormers with large windows to bring natural light into the upper rooms. The house also displays the Craftsman style of construction, emphasizing the use of high quality local natural material, simplicity, structural integrity, utility of design, and high quality workmanship.

The large, generous covered front porch of a Craftsman Bungalow home was intended to allow more gradual and gentle transition from the exterior world to the warmth of the interior of the house, and also provided a comfortable area for casual outdoor socializing with friends and neighbors.

The open design of the interior of a Bungalow house was designed to encourage interaction and communication between all members of the household, and to allow easy movement from one room to the next. It has a large living room that functions as a family space, a prominent fireplace that is a major focus of the living room, a dining room that is open and connected to the living room, and a pleasant kitchen area that is connected to the dining room.

The Skinner House is still in its original location and setting, and has never been moved. The building is in excellent condition and its floor plan, design, materials and workmanship have all remained almost completely intact and unchanged from their original construction.
